Create your own photobooth

One of the Internet’s favorite bloggers (seriously, it really seems that way), Michelle Woo, recently got married and is now sharing her favorite bits and pieces of her wedding — which I think was everything. Just about every detail from her wedding was unique and adorable and fun, but I think her and her hubby’s true genius comes through with their DIY Photobooth.

I don’t know exactly how much Photobooth rentals go for. Ballpark, it seems they go for at least a grand for a set number of hours, and that comes with a CD, a scrapbook and maybe ice cream. Just kidding. Michelle is a girl after my own heart, because she didn’t want to shell out for a photobooth, but still wanted the fun of those pictures — so she did it! For free! In a fun way!

Instead of renting a tiny little Photobooth, Michelle’s planner decorated this ivy-covered wall with pinwheels, pom poms, and ribbons. GENIUS! Instant fun backdrop. As you can tell by the smiles of the happy couple.

Remember how I mentioned those tiny Photobooths? You can fit maybe four people in those things, maximum, and it’ll be a tight squeeze. With a wall, you can jump! You can have a JUMPING PICTURE! With a bunch of people!

Plus, with some of the props and cutouts, even more genius ensues. By the way, I have had the pleasure of trying out one of these Photobooths myself, and you can try to fit this many people in it, but you’ll break the thing. Seriously. Those things are literally made of cardboard.

What do you need for your own DIY Photobooth? Michelle says they simply needed a camera and a remote. (I’m sure that camera was on a tripod, by the way.) Some alcohol is probably a good idea, to get everyone loose and in a good mood. Add a few props and some decor on a relatively blank wall, and you’re good to go!

  1. This is an outstanding idea. We talk with brides all the time wanting to do photobooths, but do not have the extra budget for it. I am planning to print this article and share it with couples we work with. What I like about this, the couple can create any kind of backdrop that is meaningful to them as opposed to the black one that is provided in a booth. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Fantastic idea. I was so worried about how to fit a photo booth into my budget and now I can’t believe I didn’t think of this myself! Duh! Simple idea with maximum benefit. Love it, stole it, slappin’ my name all over it. 🙂

  3. I came across your site and love the feedback. It never stops amazing me at how creative couples can be when it comes to their wedding. We actually had one bride do all flowers for her photo booth backdrop. It reminds me of what Michelle did at her wedding. Great article!!!

  4. This is such a unique concept… I LOVE IT! When brides express themselves in ways like this, it does two things at once. The idea is original and it also very is budget friendly!

  5. Our company does several hundred photo booth rentals a year. I LOVE it when brides find unique ways to dress up their booths. Sometimes brides will go the DIY route. Even though it takes more time, it is definitely more budget friendly. This is a great way to personalize elements of your reception. Love the post 🙂
