Awesome proposals

As I’ve mentioned before, the holidays are a prime time for proposals and engagements. In my circle of friends on Facebook, I’ve seen quite a few. Plus, there have been a few in the news, and I just wanted to highlight a few here because they’re such great stories.

My favorite story by far this engagement season is from an old family friend. Cecile Tecson is the daughter of Andy Tecson, a wedding photographer who worked many a wedding with my mom. We’ve kept in touch over Facebook, and over the weekend, saw the amazing photos in an album titled “Graffiti Art at Venice Beach.”

These amazing photos were shot by Cecile’s brother, Ja Tecson, a spectacular photographer in his own right! And yes, he does weddings too!

Basically, what happened was, Cecile’s now-fiance had graffiti artist Voltaire Mercado create a piece on a Venice Beach wall and took her there under the guise of having lunch at one of the cafes. Cecile is an artist herself, so the proposal was perfect for her. The answer? Yes, of course!

On his blog, Cecile’s brother Ja went deeper on the background behind the proposal.

Okay, so the whole significance to this amazing graffiti piece is one, my sister is a crazy artist, and second, Dawson’s Creek. My sister was obsessed with the show like the Mickey Mouse Club. Like every other girl, she was always drawn like a magnet to the character of Joshua Jackson, also knows as Pacey Witter! I believe my sister identified with Joey (Katie Holmes) because she herself was an artist too. Here is where Lester went all out. There was a famous episode where smooth guy Pacey uses all his dinero to buy Joey her own wall in the middle of town so that she could display her art on it.

Aw. What a great proposal.

However, that wasn’t the only great proposal this engagement season. Over in St. Louis, one guy figured a performance of “The Nutcracker” would be his opportunity to pop the question. He didn’t appear on stage, thank God — I think that would’ve been mortifying! No, he hid inside a giant gift box placed next to a Christmas tree in the lobby of the theater and had some of the cast members escort her out to it. He popped out of the box, popped the question and the rest is history.

Another one got an assist from a mall Santa at the South Coast Plaza. Santa told a woman, who’d taken her friends kids to see Santa, that she’d been especially good this year. And as she sat on Santa’s lap, her boyfriend of 9 years shows up with a ring and proposed right there. I guess she was on the nice list this year!

Yep. Definitely proposal season!
