Back in business

Wondering when I’d be back to decorating weddings? Wonder no more. This post is a bit late, seeing as how this wedding actually took place in mid-December, but better late than never, right?

My brother, who’s helped my mom countless times in countless weddings in various capacities, has begun taking the reins of my mom’s business and has done a few weddings in the past few months. He did one I intended on helping drape, but was scheduled to work that day, unfortunately. This one, I was able to come help out a bit and then take pictures.

This was a wedding referred by my buddy and one-time client Moonie, who deejayed, and was somehow related to the bride, hehe. The reception took place at the Knowlwood Country Club in Granada Hills. I have no photos of the exterior and can’t say much about it because, frankly, it was pouring rain that night. Michael and I were lucky to get inside without getting drenched!

Seeing as how the wedding was right around the corner from Christmas, it was not surprising that a few Christmas greens were used in the arrangements, like this head table arrangement of casablanca lilies and red roses. I love Christmas greens. They smell so good!

Here’s the back view of the arrangement.

And here’s another shot of the table arrangement. Very cute, doesn’t overwhelm the table and adds a nice splash of color to mostly white table. That’s stock underneath the roses, and the cube vases are lined with what looks like cattail grass. The petals strewn about, by the way, were silk, and I’m not sure whether they came from my brother or from the wedding party.

The big thing with this wedding was the seat covers, of course. Seat covers take time to put on, but gosh they make a room look nice. Even though I was wearing Michael in a sling and supposed to be there just to take photos, I ended up putting seat covers on one table. The friends helping my brother called me Super Mom! Ha! I gotta tell ya, if you were looking for a good leg workout, then strap on a baby and put some seat covers on — my legs were so sore the next day! If I do more wedding work with my brother, I might have to invest in an Ergo baby carrier.

However, I think what really impressed me was that my brother did the personal flowers. Bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres are really labor intensive and was my mom’s least favorite thing about dong weddings.

For example, this corsage turned out very nicely. I can just hear my mom saying, “how come you didn’t do this when I was doing weddings?” Huh, Daniel?!!!

If you’re interested in having me drape or my brother do your flowers, just shoot me an email or leave a comment!
