Visiting a wholesale candle store in North Hollywood

Jinah, the intrepid bride trusting utterly in my “expertise,” tasked me recently with finding a place that sells candles for wholesale prices. She wants lots of lights and candles for her evening, outdoor wedding, so candles and hurricanes to enclose the flames are a must.

Now, I realize all too well that “wholesale” is often a misnomer. If a place advertises itself as wholesale, its often to attract people looking for wholesale prices who won’t do too much comparison shopping. Often, if the place is truly wholesale, you wouldn’t even know it. Actual wholesalers require business licenses or some such documentation so they can give you a true wholesale price.

But, we had to go check it out. Via Google, I found General Wax and Candle Company in North Hollywood. So, getting lost just once, I met up with Jinah to check out what the General had to offer.

The outlet store is across the street from what I believe is its candle-making factory. The store itself is so big, it actually makes the space look sparse, but don’t be fooled. It is packed with everything candle-related.

Obviously, there were tons of candles. There were tiny tealight candles, like these cinnamon and Christmas Garland tealights, unscented candles, tapered candles, pillar candles, jar candles, floating candles. You name the candle, they had it. One of the nice things about the store was that we bought a few different sizes of pillar candles to the counter and they were able to tell us how long they would burn. Like, their white, unscented four-inch tall pillar candle would burn from 4 to 6 hours.

However, more interesting to me was the number of candle accessories they had. Check it out! That’s just one display. I really love those candle lanterns on the bottom shelf.

I also love these red and yellow glass hurricanes. To the left, you can see an example of the types of candle arrangements you can put together with stuff they have for sale here.

Clear glass votive? Or frosted? Why not both!

OK, this is the last gratuitous candle holder shot, I swear. But I know that a lot of people who find their way to this site are looking for places where they can find vases and candle holders. Well, here’s one place! Obviously, the taller the vase, the more expensive, but the prices of their vases online aren’t bad at all. I could swear, though, that the prices I saw in the store seemed pretty non-wholesale.

And like I mentioned before, the store sells all sorts of accessories you can use to dress up your candle like the fake gold down in the corner and these bags of quartz rocks.

However, the other really interesting thing about the General Wax outlet store is they carry supplies to make your own candles and teach candle making classes. And actually, if I was having a big wedding and wanted lots of candles, I think this would be a fun bridal shower activity.
