Chelsea Clinton’s wedding venue?

When it comes to wedding news, there’s nothing bigger than former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton’s right now. Because she is notoriously publicity shy, and is keeping her wedding details secret — of course everyone wants to know every little detail.

For the record, Chelsea Clinton is a full blown hottie now. I remember, when her parents were in the White House, adults around me (I was a teenager) talked about how good looking parents often produced ugly kids, in reference to her. I was myself an awkward teenager, so I didn’t see what everyone was talking about. However, if she didn’t want this feeding frenzy about her wedding, then she probably should have done as Jenna Bush did and give the public a little taste.

According to most news sources, everyone is in agreement that Chelsea’s wedding will be in Rhinebeck in upstate New York. Of course, because no one is saying anything about the wedding, the wedding invitations didn’t have a location — just a note that said guests should be within driving distance of New York City. After perusing many pictures on Flickr, I think its safe to say that Rhinebeck is seriously beautiful, so no wonder she decided to have her wedding there.

This Flickr set I found from Canon in 2D, by the way, are spectacular. His name is, I think, Chris Fore and he seems to be a photographer based here in Los Angeles. This set carried with it this note:

A refurbished villa of John Jacob Astor who built the house in the first decade of the 20th century. It housed the first indoor swimming pool, an indoor clay tennis court, and 6 bedrooms. Chelsea Clinton will be getting married here in July of this year.

He seems pretty sure! But since the NY Times and MSNBC are reporting the same thing, I think its safe to say he might be right.

About Astor Courts: the New York Times says its a a 13,000-foot pavilion built between 1902 and 1904 for John Jacob Astor IV and designed by Stanford White to evoke the Grand Trianon at Versailles. Rumor is that it’s owned by a Hillary Clinton donor.

The place, needless to say, is spectacular. I know its built to evoke a pavilion in Versailles, which evokes smooth white marble to me, but the classic American architectural details — like this wood floor and the green-and-white checkerboard floor on the patio — are fascinating and beautiful to me. And that view? Wow.

And this bathroom? Please, can I have one? Love that tub.

And I don’t know if anyone is taking floor plan suggestions, but if this tennis court is level, this would be the perfect place for a reception — depending on how many people are invited. It’s enclosed (so no nosy news helicopters can buzz around), with lots of windows, but enough glass ceiling to see the gorgeous, star-studded sky that I’m sure you can see in upstate New York.

  1. We love the venue she chose. It’s polished and elegant, and just a little bit rustic. It was very appropriate for the type of wedding she “had to have” because of her family ties.
