A royal wedding website

Just out of curiosity, how does one score the job of “Royal Webmaster?” Wouldn’t that be kind of cool?

Anyway, a modern wedding of course needs a wedding website, and Prince William and his fiancée are demonstrating to the world every day that they are a modern couple in every way. So of course, soon after their engagement was announced to the world, a royal wedding website was unveiled.

In the featured box, which does not automatically cycle through each of the five featured stories (I actually find that refreshing; I’d rather choose to go through them deliberately at my own leisure), are stories on the aspects of the wedding that are probably most important to everyone who is visiting — gifts, the wedding ceremony, the procession, the reception and a primer for the website.

Honestly? I’ve been loving the Flickr photos and YouTube videos of the wedding preparations. And the odd little details of, oh, the role of the Armed Forces in the wedding would be unreal for anyone else except Prince William and Kate Middleton.

And being a website design fan, I was especially interested to see the Royal Wedding site is powered by Google Apps. How….common. And I don’t mean that in a bad way! Kind of gives major props to Google Apps, which I know launched its Google Wedding Planning site not long ago. (More on that later.)
