Yellow wedding decorations and flower arrangements

Yellow is perfect as a wedding color, especially with spring coming up. It’s sunny, its optimistic and hopeful and its just plain happy. So I thought it would be nice to focus on flowers and weddings using yellow as the main color.

This 2003 wedding was at the Pacific Palms Resort in Industry Hills (possibly when it was known as the Sheraton Industry Hills). I really enjoyed decorating this wedding, probably because it was such a bright, happy color — and I had a lot of time to work on the decorations.

As you can see from this closeup, the flowers my mom chose included yellow roses and yellow cala lilies.

Trends in 2013: Mint

When it comes to color, I think mint green will be popular in 2013’s weddings. I can’t say exactly why, but I’ve seen it at a couple of weddings this year, and it makes me think that as a color, it will just continue to grow in popularity next year.

In terms of flowers and decorations, mint green (or light green, if that’s your preference), its an easy color to work with. Probably the flower most closely matching mint green is the green cymbidium orchid, like the one in the little silver cup at the base of this tall arrangement. When choosing flowers for a mint green wedding, you really just need lots of greens and lots of white flowers. And you can mix in a few green cymbidiums and green mums, too.

Where to buy and how to decorate wedding table vases

Tall flower arrangements are a regular obsession for those of us — myself included — who are into weddings. Tall generally is always good — with men, with buildings, with flower arrangements.

Tall isn’t always cheap, though, so how do you get some of those classic looks without totally breaking the bank? My mom often worked with brides’ budgets by agreeing to use vases supplied by the bride, if she could find her perfect vase somewhere for cheaper than my mom could find.

So, if we wanted to replicate this martini glass look — which is classic, tall and doesn’t require a lot of flowers, bringing down your costs — I would recommend buying from Koyal Wholesale, which has 19.5-inch vases for sale for $27 each if you buy more than 18. I would estimate the average wedding at 200 people, so buying more than 18 will probably not be a problem.

Fancier tall flower arrangements

Ohhh, tall flower arrangements. Who plans a wedding without even at least considering a tall flower arrangement? There are so many styles out there, now, too — the possibilities are endless.

I love this arrangement. It’s still tall and beautiful, but so friendly looking. This is perfect for a fall wedding, of course, with the sunny sunflowers and warm red mums. This arrangement would look both indoors and out.

Cecile and Lester’s rainy day wedding

For many brides, rain would be their worst wedding nightmare. It’s really not that bad, and the photos end up looking incredibly romantic. You can tell my friend Cecile here didn’t let the rain get her down — she and her now-husband seem to embrace the rain on their St. Patrick’s wedding day.

I remember the day well — it was raining cats and dogs. Save for the umbrella, however, you wouldn’t know it — they’re grinning at each other as if it was sunny and warm.

Bridal bouquet of yellow and white gerber daisies

I was browsing my friend Lori’s site the other day and discovered this gem of a wedding. The sunny yellow color attracted me most, and honestly, it was an appropriate choice for the couple — they seem totally sunny!

But I love the use of gerber daisies in the bridal bouquet and the groom’s boutonniere. From weddings I’ve done, I haven’t seen it used often in personal flowers and its a great choice.

Diamonds and mums at the Summit House

My friend the wedding attender sent me these photos the other day from a wedding at the Summit House in Fullerton.
I loved the colors of the wedding — a peachy, soft pink — so all the flowers were blooming roses, lush hydrangeas and mums that looked as if they were blushing. Check out the gallery after the jump.
